Exercise 0.3xx

Once you leave the simplified language of the Greenlandic L2 classroom and face the real language of the real world you will immediately note that there is much further between occurances of ..poq, ..punga and other verbs in the indicative mood than teaching falsely made you think. The participle and contemporative that you will meet in chapter II-2 are as a matter of facts more frequent than is indicative.

So in spite of the fact that internalizing (knowing by heart) the participle and the contemporative is not an easy task you cannot avoid it. Here is a gentle start to that process.

Adjust all sentences in today’s text to reported speech. Use nalunngilat (you know it) as the reporting verb and practice the t/s-alternation in the endings (Par 3Sg) {+Tuq} and (Par 3Pl) {+Tut}

Ex:
Ilinniartitsisoq Hans Jensen Danmarkimi nunaqarpoq. (Teacher Hans Jensen lives in Denmark.) => Nalunngilat ilinniartitsisoq Hans Jensen Danmarkimi nunaqartoq. (You know that teacher Hans Jensen lives in Denmark.)
